DIABETES is one of the leading causes of death in the world. The World Health Organization, WHO, estimates for Nigeria, show that 4 million Nigerians are diabetic, and nearly 4 – 11 per cent of the population lives with diabetes. The International Diabetes Federation estimates that by 2040, the global prevalence of diabetes is likely to affect 10 per cent of humanity.
What is diabetes
Diabetes is a metabolic disease that causes high blood sugar. The hormones, insulin, moves sugar from the blood to be stored or used for energy. With diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t effectively use the insulin it makes.
